PLC Lab Connector licence
Back to the PLC Lab pageLast updated 1 November 2026. PLC Lab Connector (the "connector") is Copyright © 2026 Dreamcast Productions LLC. All rights reserved. By installing or using it, you agree to these terms. If you install it for an organisation, such as a school's IT installing it on its computers, you agree for that organisation.
1. What you may do
- Install and use the connector on computers you or your organisation control, to use PLC Lab with your PLCs.
- An organisation's IT may deploy it to the organisation's computers, for example with Intune or Group Policy.
- Do not copy it for others, sell, rent or give it away, offer it as your own, or remove its notices. Use of PLC Lab itself is under its own terms.
2. The open-source parts
The connector contains libplctag, libmodbus and cJSON. Each is used under its own licence, listed under Third-party notices below, and that licence governs that part. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under those licences. In particular, you may replace modbus.dll with your own build of libmodbus, and reverse engineer the connector to debug such a change (GNU LGPL 2.1, section 6).
3. What the connector does
- It runs on your computer: for one Windows user, only while a PLC Lab page uses it; or, when IT installs it for everyone, always, as a Windows service.
- It listens only on this computer (
127.0.0.1, port 8770) and answers only the PLC Lab website. - It connects only to PLCs on your local network (ports 502 and 44818) or on a serial port, and reads and writes the PLC tags the page asks for.
- It sends nothing to Dreamcast Productions LLC or anyone else. On your computer it keeps the browsers you paired with it (as hashes, not the secrets themselves) and a log of what it did.
4. It writes to real equipment
The connector writes exactly what the PLC Lab page sends and nothing else. Closing the page, losing the connection or stopping the connector changes no output: each stays as the page last wrote it. Use it only with equipment set up for training, with its own safety measures, under the supervision of someone qualified to run that equipment.
5. What installing changes, and how to undo it
- Installed only for me (no administrator): the folder
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\PLC Lab ConnectorwithPLC Lab Connector.exe,modbus.dllandlibmodbus LGPL-2.1.txt; a "PLC Lab Connector" value underHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, which starts it when that user signs in to Windows; its paired browsers and log in%LOCALAPPDATA%\PLC Lab Connector. It runs in the notification area until Exit is chosen on its icon. - Installed for everyone (an administrator, or IT): the same files in
C:\Program Files\PLC Lab Connector, plusPLC Lab Connector Service.exe; thePLCLabConnectorWindows service (LocalService, starts automatically); the "PLC Lab Connector" source in the Windows Event Log; and a registry value underHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PLC Lab Connector. - To undo it: Settings, Apps, Installed apps, PLC Lab Connector, Uninstall. That removes everything above, the paired browsers and the log included.
6. No warranty
The connector is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the extent the law allows, Dreamcast Productions LLC is not liable for any damages arising from installing or using it, including damage to equipment or loss of data.
